Apparently, this guy's definition of a "Hair Band" is quite different than mine.

No Poison? They set the standard for Hair Bands in my book.

I guess the definition of hair band is quite debatable, but if we accept his definition, then I still think the list is pretty bad. Def Leppard as #4? What a joke! And no Whitesnake? Here are my top 4:

4. Whitesnake
3. Kiss
2. Van Halen
1. Guns n Roses

So at least he got the top two right, but other than that, the list is unimpressive.

I consider hair bands to be pseudo-heavy metal bands that arrived on the scene when it became mainstream and commercialized.

Bands that were more about image than substance.

Poison
Cinderella
Skid Row
Winger
Firehouse
Great White

I really can't define "hair band", but I know one when I see one.

Def Leppard had a pre-hair band era (Pyromania) , but clearly ended as a hair band. (Pour Some Sugar On Me)

I agree with G&P - that guy has no clue what a hair band is. Van Halen and GnR were never known as hair bands. Ozzy wasn't either, except for when he had Jake E. Lee in the band.

I think Van Halen had the hair "before" they were called hair bands. Maybe you could say they invented it. GnR did one M-Tv video (Welcome to the Jungle I think) where they had them in a "Hair Band" get up. It always amazes me they got them to do that even once.

FWIW... I agree with the theisis that the writer of this article obviously doesn't understand the genre' that was hair bands. Poison was a seriously good example of this ignorance.
