I've done both, and I prefer semesters--although I think they both work. When you compress the term, there is a greater chance that something in terms of learning will be lost.

W/ semesters i have been taking 4 or 5 classes each semester and b/c I like to sleep, there is always somework that doesn't get done on time or at all. B/c of this, I tend to focus on 2 or 3 classes. If a quarter system allowed me to take 2 or 3 classes at a time I would be all for it
