Archuleta's second was good vocally, but that wasn't his best work. His thrid song was nice, but WAY old-fashioned. The first one, his rendition of Billy Joel's "And So It Goes" was good. Cooks first song was very not good, his second one was ok, but his third was pretty good, a cool little take on Aerosmith's overplayed "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing".
I'll have to disagree just a little. David Cook's rendition of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" rocked. Simon picked a make or break song for him and he aced it. By far the best performance all night with all the pitch changes and his own originality with the mixing. I like him more as a rocker, but he did a great job on this tough number. I think he'll win the whole thing based on that performance alone. Tough for a guy to sing Roberta Flack but he nailed it.

Agree to disagree, I wasn't a fan of that one. I thought Archuleta had the best performance in the first round, and David Cook had the "best" (nobody was particularly good after that, IMO) performances of the next two rounds. In the mind of full disclosure, I'm a Billy Joel fanatic.

And we have the anticipated Finale of Archuleta and Cook. Let's go Archuleta!

You'd be a fan of my brother in law, then, who was a sound mixer for Billy Joel for about 15 years. He's touring with Carlos Santana now.

In all fun, though, I'm a rocker, so it's no mystery why I think D. Cook will win it all.

Dominating performance from Archuleta tonight. Cook may win, but Archuleta deserves the title.

I agree, if you're into soft music, ballads, musicals, Archuleta is your man. He's technically sound and very talented. He took the safe path, with well known, emotional songs, and showed his strong suit, complete with the weepy, wet eyes. Excellent performances tonight - probably enough to win it.

On the other hand, I'd never buy his records. The judges are setting this up to launch a Broadway career. Why else would they save Andrew Lloyd Weber for the final night of competition? I think Archuleta will probably win, but I think David Cook will be picked up by a recording studio and make a LOT of records. He's that good.

One song was picked for him (and I believe just as good a song was picked for Cook). They both sang crappy songs from the song-writing contest. The last song is typically a reprise of a performance (as you heard Simon say) so Archuleta picked what many felt was HIS best.

For the weepy wet eyes, I'd point out Cook was crying himself.

The soft music is a faux criticism from people who aren't giving him a fair shake. He sang one of the toughest Beatles songs, he sang the heck out of "Shop Around" during the first week which is an upbeat song, he sang the (admittedly bad) "You're the Voice" which was upbeat, but he sang it well.

Most of Cook's great performances were rock-ified covers of popular songs, so unless he's going to be covering other people's music forever, I don't think he's going to be as popular as people claim. Whenever he tried to do straight rock songs, he sounded...well, not that great.

Cook wins the vote by a pretty big total. Not who I would pick, but it's obviously not my choice.

Nice win for David Cook. What a thrill to sing "Sharp Dressed Man" with ZZ Top!
