I took a class in high school that was basically designed to be an easy class, because for many students, it was our seventh class. It was called Government and Society, and all we did was watch old war movies. I loved it! Some of my favorite movies of all time were introduced to me in that class:

The Best Years of Our Lives
Patton (George C. Scott is a Missouri Tiger!)
Casablanca

I also like Blackhawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, the Manchurian Candidate (original) and though this may not be a traditional war movie, I think it still qualifies-Dr. Strangelove.

I struggle with Blackhawk Down because the book was so much better than the movie.

Braveheart, 300, dr. Strangelove are all brilliant... for more traditional War movies, I'm a huge fan of Black Hawk Down. It might not be "deep" enough to be an all-time great, but the real-time urban warfare is brilliant.

Also "Enemy at the Gates". I watched it when I was a teenager and my brothers and spent hours trying to "snipe" each other afterwards.
