Baby boomers should remember him well.
He could play a lot of roles, but he was especially noted for his portrayal of bad guys. The most memorable role of his that I've seen recently was in One Way Out (1950) where he played a bigoted crook named Ray Biddle to Sidney Poitier (portraying a doctor in his first film) and the beautiful Linda Darnell.
