I am done with my pain meds, so I just cracked open a Thirsty Dog Siberian Night Russian Imperial Stout. 9.0% Alcohol, flavor is an interesting mixture of heavy stout and sweetness of a high alcohol double bock-type beer

Congrats, but take it easy. You don't want to have that stuff go to your head, fall, and then have to have another surgery.

Unless someone were to give me one, I would totally avoid a beer called Cocoa, based on the name alone.
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout is awesome.

I think MoJo was the first person I heard extol the virtues of the SS's Oatmeal Stout. It didn't sound all that appealing, but I finally tried it and, yes, it is damn good.

I'm usually a light beer guy but last weekend while in Minny for the Big 10's my buddy and I hit a bar downtown and tried about 8 different types of beers they had on tap plus the bunch we drank before we got there. Well long story short, I was very close to missing the 1st round of the tourney because I was having trouble getting out of the bathroom. I have been known to over indulge! I did have some of the Samuel Smith Oatmeal (I think?!)

I haven't tried anything with Cocoa, but I do a very nice stout with
    Pale Ale Malt, 1.0
    Crystal, 2.0
    Chocolate, 1.0
    Flaked Maize, 0.5

The above mashed at 150 deg F for 90 minutes.

    M&F; Dark Malt Syrup, 3.3
    Amber Dry Malt Extract, 3.0
    Light Dry Malt Extract, 1.5
    Black Licorice, 1 piece

The chocolate malt gives a very nice secondary flavor and, depending on the yeast, you get either a rich, smooth brew or a blend of malt and bitters.
