Wow! Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement! (or, for OC, that's "go raibh maith agat"). It was great to log on to check for PSU-OSU score and see so many nice comments!
I just finished running through some practices on the stages at the hotel and I'm feeling pretty good about it. It's exciting seeing all the vendors getting set up, dancers coming in for registration, and everyone practicing. The bad news (so far) is that the stages are pretty hard - not much give in the wood - so after just an hour of practicing, I've got some pain in my feet (injury from the summer) and my calves are also pretty tight. But, ice will be my friend tonight and hopefully tomorrow my old bones and muscles will cooperate.
LkwdSteve - a competition is called a "Feis" (pronounced fesh) when they also have singing & music competitions. If it's just dancing, it's a "Feili" (FAY-lee).... what you said "gaie" - you may be thinking "Ceili" (KAY-lee) which is used to describe an Irish party sort of thing with music and dancing.
Spider -- sorry, no photos.
Rule # 3.7: Any form of unauthorised photography which has the capability to capture a dancers image whilst in motion, using electronic or manual means eg. mobile phone, standard camera, video camcorder, cine recorder or commercial film with or without flash enhancement is expressly forbidden in competition.
So sayeth the Irish Dance Commission. (that's pronounced An Coimisiún le Rinci Gaelacha)
However, there's no rule about whilst NOT in motion, so I'll see what I can do in the hotel lobby.
In the meantime, here are a couple shots from some shows I did back in the fall. Trying my best to "kick butt" or as the dance teachers say, "kick your bum" cause the little kids get all giggly if you say "butt". There's also a photo in my profile that I think is pretty cool
Matclone - wow, you reely know your Irish dances.
Ryou - good memory, but this one is here in NC. Philly is the World Championships in 2009.
Anyway, thanks again everyone. You've all made me feel better!
