Didn't want to hi-jack Big's thread, especially one on such a somber subject, but people's responses got me to thinking about what kind of pets they have. My family lost two dogs, Sunshine two summers ago and Shadow last summer. We just adopted (two months ago) a pair of greyhounds from a local greyhound rescue - track dogs that were no longer useful and so were slated for death. They are teaming up with a 10 year-old cat and two of the world's largest goldfish.

So - what are your pets - now, past, future?

I gave up pets: instead I have my friends from nature. Every morning, I can summon the local birds for a feed by whistling. The regular visitors are rainbow lorikeets, grey butcherbirds, magpies, and noisy miners. I have become a bird nerd!

I have three Red-Eared Sliders - Alan, Jeff, and Vova. They were China Town specials and were each about the size of a quarter. They are now over 3 years old, between 2-3 inches, and hopefully will out-live me!

My parents have 4 cats and a dog.
