    Default Missouri - Pinkel

Missouri athletic director Mike Alden announced Sunday that Pinkel will receive a $550,000 annual raise, boosting his guaranteed compensation to $1.85 million a year. Pinkel also gets a one-year extension through 2012. Late last season, he was given a $225,000 raise and three-year extension.

Top tier head coaching deals are absolutely out of hand. How are the second tier schools going to handle the trickle down effect.

They're not. Pinkel actually came from Toledo, a MAC school, where he was a successful coach and then MU hired him after firing Larry Smith. What makes me happy as a Mizzou alum is that in the past, we would have lost Pinkel. We would have been one of those second tier schools. Alden and the donors decided to make sure that we kept the coach who has brought us so much success.

My fear for the second tier schools is that they will try to compete, but when they don't have the money, they will take money away from some of the smaller sports.
