Just keep an eye on skipster. He is a big time freedom loving guy.

I think Big is referring to a skipter's extreme rightwing view of the world and his posts in the political section (all his posts seem to be there). He always makes rightwing arguments that seem to assume some ideal economic model where competition and honesty always prevail, and therefore there is no need for government regulations and interference with corporate behavior. His arguments are at a theoretical level, and ignore practical real-world issues that fall outside the ideal model. Many people feel uncomfortable discussing the issues with him because they are brought into a theoretical discussion that is not their realm. I've gotten into a few arguments with him and I always try to bring it back to a practical level, but he tries to continue to maintain the theoretical argument. As far as rightwingers go, although his posts may seem intimidating to those not comfortable with theoretical discussions, I do not think his arguments are particularly strong simply because a theoretical model that ignores practical realities is of no use. In my opinion, Flop the Nuts makes much better arguments for the rightwing than skipster.

Well, I'm comfortable, so long as he argues honestly (as Flop does). I used to be a dedicated fan of Ayn Rand (who thought late 19th-century capitalism was our golden era) so I'm familiar with all the arguments for lassiez-faire (nice in theory but not so nice in practice).

It's good to see that the gang's all here. I do post a lot of theory, but I try to tie it in to real world situations (though I'm not always successful). My larger goal is to boil things down to the basics and attempt to remove some of the emotion that can sometimes cloud judgement.

There's not doubt that some of the things on this board are emotionally charged -- why live if you can't really get behind something. But, I think that these emotions may sometimes obscure other things that are happening.

When I post, I am also laying my thought and decision-making process out on the table. I show everyone exactly where I'm coming from and I try to make it obvious why I feel that way I do. My hope is that my view may be at least a little more understandable if I tell you how I got there.

Am I rightwing, impractical, liberal, conservative, libertarian, dog, or cat? Who knows?? If anyone agrees with my views or not, I hope that I can at least give them a logical reasoning behind my view.

There are many ways to skin the cat, which is what makes the US such an awesome place. I can view things one way and anyone else may view them totally opposite, or anything in between. Now that's cool.
