Am I alone in wondering why, with all that is going on in the world, this is even considered news worthy?

The American obsession with celebrity is pathetic.

Instead of wondering what these celebrities are doing and saying. Why not do something worthwhile with your own life?

I totally agree. But in part it's because celebrity is "sold" to us. This phenomenon is no longer exclusive to the People rags, or to the TV Guide channel, now it's all over the sports channels (well, to the big choice of two TV channels (ESPN or Fox) we have), and the newspapers. I've been grousing about this ever since I moved to Denver. John Elway is God here. He may be a nice guy and all, but I'm not ready to see him (or his wife) as dieties.

Very true about it being "sold" to us. It used to be that you had to look at People/US/Enquirer, etc. or watch Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, the E channel or some other worthless outlet to read about this stuff.

Now network news is covering the Anna Nicole death and subsequent paternity stuff. You know Peter Jennings and Wolf, etc. are close to slitting their wrists when they're told they have to follow a story about the war with some crap about Anna Nicole or Alec Baldwin's rant at his daughter.

Again, the only word I can think of is "Pathetic". It's the same reason why more Americans can name the contestants on American Idol than can name the Speaker of the House, or even the Vice President of the US.

It's one of the reasons I come to these wrestling forums. Intelligent and well read posters. While I may not agree with many of the opinions. I do have to respect that it's been formed after at least a little reading and research. And I always learn something, or at least expand my own way of thinking about the topic.

Good thought. One reason I like this forum is that it's a conversation with real people, unadorned, unglamored, and unspun (And I can say that about the sport of wrestling in general). And yes, intelligent comments and different points of view. I believe most people are inherently intelligent. But we all put our energies and intelligence into different things.
