How come many more people just don't want to wrestle? What can be more natural than grappling mano a mano or womano a womano for that matter?

Don't tell me basketball or football feels more natural. I don't understand why we don't have wrestling mats in every fitness center. Don't tell me step classes are more exciting. I don't get it.

"Mano a mano" means "hand to hand", not "man to man," so it could apply equally to either gender. But I have to say, "womano a womano" made me laugh really really hard!

Most of us on here will agree with you Big(its a rare occurrence, but its true).

There are many reasons that kids don't take up the sport and I'll list a few.

the uniforms- kids are really self concious these days and add to it more and more kids are fat doesn't help, even though football wears tight uniforms

its gay- we all know its not true, but go to a middle school and ask kids what they think of wrestling

lack of exposure- you don't see the NCAA wrestling bracket show on before the NCAAs and you don't see two hours of wrestling previews every Sunday morning

money- not much to be made in the sport

pro wrasslin'- doesn't really give wrestling a great name, unless all the mat maids looked like most the girls in the WWE


Wrestling will NEVER be as big as football our bounceball in the USA. It just doesn't have the appeal to a wide audience like the other sports. Everyone can go to their driveway and shoot baskets or go to the park and throw the football around. Not everyone can wrestle or even find a place to wrestle just for fun.

Its simply that its just not exposed and seen enough by those who dont understand the sport. Honestly i did not start wrestling until 7th grade when i went to my middle school simply because i didnt even know about the sport of wrestling except for what i saw on TV (AKA WWE). Before 7th grade i had never seen a wrestling match or even knew a single thing about it whereas i knew alot about basketball and football because im constantly exposed to it. Naturally once i got to understand wrestling it blew the other sports out of the water but i first had to be introduced. The problem is that most kids are never introduced and therefore will never enjoy it as much as the "popular" sports.
