I have approximately 14 mile drive to work, usually takes around 20-25 minutes especially if I hit all the red traffic lights.

13 miles, 19 minutes in, 11 miles 16 minutes home now. When I was in THE City, it was between 1:50 and 2:20 depending on the weather. 2 trains, a subway and 20 minute walk. It could chop 15 minutes off by taking another subway and did in bad weather and winter, otherwise I'd hoof it for the exercise and save the additional1.50 each way. Total Cost .00 to park the car at the train station, 2 trains were 13.50 Round trip, subway in and out another .00 - 17.50 per day and I have even eaten yet. Add to that the NYC commuter tax which is levied on NJ working in NYC---10% of your gross and the 5% New York State Income tax.

Oops.. my mistake. Around here, "the city" means NYC. And the fact that you posted the article from 'The New Yorker' made me think you were a New Yawwwkker!

When you trade in the riding mower for a car your commute will take a lot less time!!
