Terrible casting. I can just about believe him in Mission Impossible, but the Scientologist midget is NOTHING like Jack Reacher. I probably won't see the movie.
I've now read the entire Reacher series and nearly puked when I saw the commercial with Cruise as the walking man .
Make that three of us. I was going to start a thread to register my disgust and saw this here already.
Did Lee Child have any say so on this?
INTERVIEWER: There’s been a little bit of griping that Tom Cruise isn’t exactly the right actor to play Jack Reacher, partly because of height. Jack Reacher is 6’5’’ and Tom Cruise is not known for being tall.
CHILD: Cruise is a character actor. He really gets into a role. He can understand the role. He can project the vibe. But the only real answer is go see the movie. I guarantee you will come out of it and you will think, “What was I worried about?”
SPIDER: Maybe he wasn't crazy about the selection of Cruise, but now he has to go along with it for the good of the movie. He may have a financial interest in the movie's success.
I suppose if Cruise was Jewish or Catholic or African-American you would be saying the same thing Spider? Probably not. I can understand that you might not like the casting but I guess you think it is ok to throw out a religious slur or derogatory when it is a religion you don't like? I guess then you are not a bigot in your own mind? Pls remember that next time then someone uses words like kike or towel head or the n-word or whatever.
Are your saying calling him a Scientologist is being a bigot or was it the midget part that offended you? Tom Cruise is in fact a Scientologist and well he is a little short to be playing a character who is supposed to be 6' 5". I have not read any of the books. So I have no opinion on whether Cruise fits the bill or not. I do think Cruise is a bit of a nut job though. ;)
I don't put scientologists in the same category as Catholics, Muslims or Jews. There is a difference between a religion and a cult and I think
scientology falls on the far side of that line. Furthermore, a reference to what I consider a pseudo-religion has nothing to do with racism.
Got it. It is still a prejudice which I can tell from your statement is about a subject you know absolutely nothing about other than what you have been told by the media. This is the exact sort of thinking that eventually got Germans to cart away the Jews: one group of people actually are better than another or one group's thoughts/ideas/philosophies have value while another don't.
The IRS btw recognized my faith as a religion. It has in its practice helped save my life, saved the life of my grandfather, gotten countless people off of drugs (myself included), rehabilitated criminals, made people literate, helped made many folks very successful in life, gotten rid of countless physical aliments, fought for human rights & exposed the mental health abuses & crimes.
Also some Jews hold the idea that you cannot convert to Judaism, that it is a RACE thing to them. You are born into it or not. So the analogy holds.
