Default A-Rod opts out of Yankees contract

Rodriguez made his choice because he was uncertain whether Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte would return to the Yankees.

Cashman has said he would not try to re-sign ARod.

    All fallout from firing Torre.

On the bright side for GS, he should have $100-125 mil to work with on buying a new core of all-stars.. Almost 50 just between ARod and Clemens

Less the $20 mil Texas had been paying the Yankees from ARods original deal.

They're paying Girardi $2 mil a year for 3 years, basically getting Girardi free for 2 years compared to Torre.

Torre and Mattingly are headed to the Dodgers.....that'll be announced today. Guidry is baling as pitching coach and Pena, 1st B coach and the No 3 consideration for manager, has asked out.

Yup, cellar dwellers in 2008 and Girardi will be sacked.

Ah, back to the old Steinbrenner madness.

    Thank goodness!!!

I hope they go after Mike Lowell as a replacement and with the savings are able to bring in some young guys. Let Posada, Rivera and Pettite go if they want to. They're all over the hill and on the downside of their careers. They've got some good kids in the pipeline, give them a shot and use the left over money to get some pitching for Christ's sake!!!

BTW, I'm pretty psyched about the prospect of Joe Girardi taking over on the bench.
