    Default Joe Torre

Yankees still meeting "to decide Torre's fate". How friggin' ridiculous. If I were Torre, I'd tell the Yankees to take a flying you-know-what, and wait to see who else would hire me (and someone would), or retire. But maybe he lives in New York (where he was born) and wants to stay there. Still, I'd tell them where to go.

Joe Torre made twice as much as any other manager over the past 5years - $3 mil plus bonuses. Would you retire? At 67 he doesn't need the job either.

Personally I think he's paid his dues to the sport and the City of New York and should retire now so he'll still be alive when they vote him into the HoF and can relish the honor.

The Steinbrenner Bros won't let him go unless they have someone really good ready to take the helm. I just don't see a replacement out there right now, 'cept a buyout of Pinella's contract with Chi.go

Yeah, I didn't even think about his salary. Nevertheless, if it were my choice, I'd go elsewhere. It's not like he's hurting for money--especially at his age.

Tony Larussa is the name I keep hearing.

BTW, I saw segments of the ESPN "made for.." drama, Bronx is Burning (or whatever it was called).

I was curious as to how close the series got to representing the real George Steinbrenner.

Very very close. Ol George, or should I say young George was an idiot, blasting the Yankee player and coaches in the news daily.

What the series doesn't show is Steinbrenner's revolving door of managers, fired on a whim. That is what drove me away, firing Yogi without cause and Billy Martin for a 4th time.

As for the Reggie - Billy fireworks, yeah it was that bad - till Reggie had that 3 homer game, then Jackson's ego cooled.

But Steinbrenner, he never let up letting everyone know who held the purse strings. It's because of him I haven't been back in the Stadium since '78.

No, but maybe reads thematforum to see what's going on in the world. Or, maybe he is friends with Big or ODH.

Looks like Joe gave the Yankees the the old Bronx cheer.
