Thread: Raining on my Parade

    Default Raining on my Parade

Tomorrow's St Patrick's Day Parade has been postponed due to weather forecast. Rescheduled for next Saturday, when I'll be in St Louis. I'm bummed, the parade is always one of the more fun things our dance school participates in during the year. I hate to miss it, along with the shows after.

Why aren't they doing it on the 17th?

Because, despite the rummors, a lot of Irish people actually have jobs...
There's no such thing as a pretty good aligator wrestler.

Yeah the parade is always the Saturday prior to St Pat's. It's a whole day thing with the parade followed by a festival with music, dancers performing, etc.

Thanks Matclone - this is one of my favorite pictures. I found it online last year.

Why is it that everyone has curly hair?! They're definitely cute though! (P.S. I'm irish & have naturally curly hair! )

Star - When are you getting out to STL? I'll be out there on St. Patty's day if you want to celebrate... bring your dancing shoes!

They're wigs! It's part of the traditional Irish dance costume. Worn in competitions, shows, etc. Story goes that back in the 1800's in Ireland, there was always dancing on Sunday afternoons. The little girls always curled their hair for mass in the morning, then went on to dance later. Wigs are easier than those ringlet spike curler things. I think they look cute on the young girls but I think the adults look ridiculous and I *hate* having to wear it.

I'm getting into STL on Wednesday night because I have a show I have to dance in on Tuesday. But we can have a belated St Pattys & bday celebration at some point! Maybe I'll teach everyone a little jig

Around here we just take the day off work. The day begins with Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church, followed by the parade which culminates with the Shamrock Club's Irish Family Reunion. From there it's off to Byrne's Pub to raise a pint with thousands of my closest friends, while watching Irish dancing and listening to Irish Folk music.

I can certainly appreciate the desire to have it on a weekend though. I'm usually feeling a little rough on the 18th.
