    Default 1964: Beatles & Bikinis

It was 45 years ago this week...

... two historically seismic events rocked US pop culture, and endure today...

    > In February 1964, The Beatles arrived at JFK International to mobs of screaming fans... then appeared on CBS' "The Ed Sullivan Show" in front of more screaming fans. The British invasion was on! Yeah, yeah, yeah!

    > Also in February 1964, Sports Illustrated's first swimsuit issue appeared on newsstands and in mailboxes of delirious fans. Editors were looking for something to "cover" during the dull winter months after football season but before baseball and golf*... so they sent a photographer and some models in swimsuits to a beautiful beach in some exotic location, and, an annual late-winter staple was born. Yeah, yeah, yeah!

    * Why not wrestling? Well, back in the day, SI DID cover college wrestling.

    For the curious....

    then...

    and now.....

Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.
