On the 260 there is a choice of route feature. Faster time or Shortest distance.

Try both and see if it makes a difference

If you know there is a better route, don't hesitate to take it, the GPS will recalculate the route after a few minutes. (Though I swear the little lady inside is really PO'd she has to recalculate.)

hahaha, when I first got it for my wife, she was using it even with me in the car. More than once I told her to forget what Judy (that's what we named the female voice) was telling her and listen to me, since I knew the traffic pattern at that time of day. Judy wasn't happy to have to "recalculate".

Judy does have a bit of an attitude doesn't she.

I named her Gypsy, and she does have an attitude but she always looks out for me.

I had a GPS in a rental when I was in Europe for work driving from Zurich to Germany, we took the shortest route and it sent us across a lake. We followed the instruction and were very confused when we pulled into a parking lot until we figured out it was a ferry across a fairly big lake.

Sadly I've realized I don't really have any road trips coming up for a while where I don't know where I'm going... oh well.

Keep in mind that most of them use the same GPS software, so you end up paying for the extras. I bought a Magellan last Fall that seems to work pretty well, and has some sort of arrangement with AAA to boot. I wanted BlueTooth capability for hands free calling.

I bought my daughter a Garmin for Christmas that has some more bells and whistles including the MP3 capability, along with BlueTooth. Since she will be driving longer distances this year I thought it was a good thing for her to have.

Well, Sandy (guess who she's named after) and I made it to school safely today. Right out of the gate, though, she told me to turn left... but I always turn right. And then we had a bit of a struggle when I pulled into Sonic and she wanted me to order a breakfast burrito instead of the french toast sticks.

I like how it gives your estimated arrival time.

I figured you would switch to the Aussie guy.

Dead on accurate with the ETA. Now if they could only build in the traffic light delays.
