    Default Slumdog Millionaire

I saw it yesterday and, quite frankly, it wasn't what I expected. It's been getting great critical reviews and award recognition, and it probably deserves them, but for some reason (misleading talk show comments?) I expected a feelgood movie about a poor kid who strikes it rich. Not so. It's a pretty heavy story with some graphic violence and some disturbing scenes. I won't give away anything, but I will say that there is comic relief and you will leave the theater satisfied. Just know what you're getting into.

I watched it yesterday and I loved it, but I too was surprised by its content- I'd guess about 1/3 of the film involves the protagonist being chased and smacked around.

I especially enjoyed it because I was in India myself a couple years ago and, while I'm no expert on Indian culture, the movie seemed very true-to-life (especially when showing the class differences in India and the incredible filth of the cities).

Today, Newsweek's "Conventional Wisdom Watch" called it a "feel-good Indian indie." That's how we get misled.

My reviews done some time ago, I loved it and Boyle will win Best Director for Oscar and I am picking this film to win best picture. It is one of those that was actually better than I thought it was going to be, and I thought it was going to be good. It may be the best written screenplay I have seen in film, the way the story is told is special.

I agree that the way the story is told is unique and that it is a very well made movie with excellent acting. My problem is the way that it is being promoted. I expected a "Marley & Me" type movie, and it sure isn't that. I was surprised to see that it had an R rating, but thought that it probably was a love scene or some language. I didn't expect the violence.

My son just back from seeing it with some friend. He's all over this one, saying I gotta see it asap. His taste in movies is pretty good usually, and in line with mine, so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Talk about a movie that is not per say a feel good movie, Marley and Me is the tearjerker of the year. I never put much into the trailers and promo pieces, I know how most movie companies normally buy those. It is a big surprise if you think it is going to be a feel good movie, yet the things that make the movie what it is what I think are getting people to like it so much, it is what caused me to like it far more than I did.
