Frigorific! The sun is out and it's only -1 right now (at noon).

-1, -11, -22, -27? Are you sure? Did you go out and maybe tap the thermometer to see if it was stuck or something? D@mn! That is COLD!
I am getting ready to go to the Southern California Regional Girls' CIF Championships - figure I won't be leaving the gym until about 10:00 tonight. Big decision, do I take a jacket, or just suffer in my short sleeves on the walk from the gym to the car. It will probably be down around 50 degrees by that time.

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) -- In a scene straight out of the movie ''A Christmas Story,'' a 10-year-old boy got his tongue stuck to a metal light pole. Police said the unidentified fourth-grader was able to tell them that a friend dared him to lick the pole Wednesday night. Temperatures in Hammond were around 10 degrees at the time.

By the time an ambulance arrived, the boy was able to yank his tongue off the frozen pole.

Police said ambulance personnel explained to the boy's mother how to care for his bleeding tongue.

The 1983 movie is set in a fictional city based on Hammond, the hometown of author Jean Shepherd.

Ban - you will be relieved to know, I am sure, that while temperatures had dropped to about 65 when I left the gym last night, I was able to make it to my care all right even without the jacket.
