How was it that Mocco got that extra semester for football?

He only used four years of eligibility, ergo he still had one more year to play any sport he wished other than wrestling. It was a toss-up between football and cross country and he chose football.

I would assume he had to get a waiver/approval from the NCAA to be able to compete for that one season of football.

Nope, no waiver necessary.

You have 5 years to complete your four years of eligibility. Each sport is measured independent of any other sport participation.

Mocco competed 4 years without a redshirt or Olympic waiver. He had one year of athletic eligibility remaining - and chose to test the dirt of the gridiron.

The same applies to Ryan Goodman at NC State, albeit in reverse. He redshirted his first year wrestling, but played varsity football. He then transferred to NC State for 4 varsity seasons on the mat. He's senior on the football team, but a redshirt Junior for wrestling.

PS I just noticed Darrion Caldwell is back on the NC State roster at.....
149 - he just made 149 that much more of a bad ass weight class.
If you recall Darrion was the one that had Lang pancaked in the first period and turned it in a freef for all bout - till he got caught and decked.

Darion wrestled 152 in HS, so he was cutting a ton to get to141 when he never cut a lb in his career. Wait till you see this little tornado at full strength. He has octopus arms and one of the best cradles you'll ever see.
