    Default Frozen food question

How long are frozen hotdogs good? I have had some in my deep freezer for a couple of years. They are still in the original package. My wife thinks I am about to kill people by putting them on the grill and I think they will be okay. Of course since I won't be eating them, it's easy for me to say. Anyone know?

It is generally recommended that hot dogs be frozen for no more than 2 months - but that has to do with deterioration of quality, rather than health safety. Personally, I think the trash can would be a pretty good place for two year old hot sausage - but that's me.

I got to thinking about it, and decided to look further than my memory for info. I found this:
    Food Safety Guidelines
The same general food safety guidelines apply to hot dogs as to all perishable products ? "Keep hot food hot and cold food cold."

When you leave the grocery store with hot dogs, head straight home and refrigerate or freeze them immediately. If there is no product date, hot dogs can be safely stored in the unopened package for 2 weeks in the refrigerator; once opened, only 1 week. For maximum quality, freeze hot dogs no longer than 1 or 2 months. And, of course, never leave hot dogs at room temperature for more than 2 hours and no more than 1 hour when the temperature goes above 90 ?F.

Although hot dogs are fully cooked, those at increased risk of foodborne illness should reheat hot dogs and luncheon meat until steaming hot before eating, due to the threat of listeriosis. Hot Dogs and Food Safety

Disclaimer: Richardson's recommendation sounds much better than mine, and is probably safer.

Eat the stupid things. I've had some in the freezer for well over a year and eaten them. The quality may decrease some but it's a hot dog after all.

Dude. Just convince her that was YOUR idea. Oldest trick in the book.

LOL!! Actually, we and two other couples volunteer at the local homeless shelter whenever there is a 5th Wednesday in a month. Since it is summer, we are going to cook out. We have to buy and cook everything. I was hoping to save money by using the ones in our freezer. I want to take Snackem's idea!

Maybe I will use the hotdogs, like Snackem said and if someone gets sick, I will convince her that it was her idea like VA said. Would that work?

The only thing you should eat or drink after two years is probably wine.
