Obama to award Medal of Honor to Army sergeant - Yahoo! News

Well deserved, and glad to see that we have a second recipient who isn't getting the award posthumously.

That was a fairly common event in WWII where combatants were routinely closer to each other than today. Not intending to tarnish THE Award or the Act of the officer, but the event may be the weakest circumstance I've read about for THE Honor.
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.

RU - this is a newspaper article taken from a press release. It would be better if we could read the actual citation. There may be a lot more to it. In Nam, a guy I knew threw himself on a grenade to protect the rest of us. It was a dud and didn't go off. He got the Silver Star. I have always wondered why throwing yourself on a grenade that didn't go off wasn't as courageous as throwing yourself on one that did explode.

I have always wondered that too. Same braveness (is that a word?) in my eyes. Anyone who does that should be rewarded greatly. But, I am guessing the guy who jumped on a dud has been rewarded with drinks and dinners from the entire company for the rest of his life. It doesn't take a medal around your neck to be a hero. But a medal doesn't hurt either.
