Default 17 year old student punches teacher

A 17-year-old Wayne Township student accused of punching a teacher in the face faces preliminary charges of felony battery, disorderly conduct and intimidation.
A school police officer wrote in a report that he saw the student punch Robert Keeler "with a closed clenched fist," at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at Sanders School, 4730 W. Gadsden St.
The punch knocked Keeler to the floor, and he suffered a swollen chin and lip and hurt his ear, according to the report.
The report said Keeler had picked up a stray folder on a table. The student said it belonged to him and that if Keeler did not give it to him "he would be sorry," according to the report.
He then punched the teacher, according to the report.
Sanders serves students with behavioral and emotional problems, according to the school's website, which said Keeler is an art and music teacher.
The Star generally does not identify juveniles charged with crimes.
EH/MH -(emotionally and Mentally handicapped kids ) is an area I worked in for several years. These kids -25 years ago-were special Ed or just kicked out of school. Thanks to the change in federal laws - if a ''student'' is labeled EH/MH the school receives 3 x the amount of money for each EH/MH kid than a ''regular '' student.
Wayne Township has at least converted a closed elementary school to house these kids-before that they were in isolated classes 5 periods and 2 periods in mainstream classes.
IF you have an honor student you should be outraged as Honor students get 1/10 the attention these ''students'' receive. IMO, who ever changed the law should have his/her kid yanked out of Andover and ''sentenced '' to one of these schools.

I agree. Keep me posted on what happens to the kid. He should probably finish his HS in Juvy, but I'll bet someone will fight to keep him in a regular HS.

One question, though. My buddies ex-wife was a counselor for emotionally screwed up kids (sorry, I really forget what they are actually called). She took one of them to a park to discuss things or ease his mind, what ever it was. Anyway, at some point he picked up a big rock and threw it into her car and left a huge dent in the back door, not to mention the paint that was scraped off. She came home and told her husband that she was not allowed to turn him in, by law. I don't know what law that is or even if she was just lying to my buddy, but I wonder if this falls into the same category?

She was at fault for NOT meeting him in an appropriate setting-there are special guidelines for EH/MH kids. Had she turned him in she would have lost her job.

Ohhhh! Well I guess it makes sense that she made sure my buddy didn't press charges. Hmm! Like I said, she is an ex-wife now and lying to your spouse is never a good idea. I now want to tell him. I knew she was a lying Beotch! I will let it go, though. He has a new girl and all is cool.

Keep me posted on this case though. Send a link or something because it does sound interesting.

I hope the teacher is OK. I work with emotional/behavioral disorder kids as well, and I've been punched too (though never as severely). Like quinn, I hope this kid goes to jail.

I guess you could say that I work with emotional/behavioral disorder kids too. The difference is, if they try to punch us (and they do!) we get to defend ourselves - and a couple of co-workers are going to pile on, too. I wonder what the headlines would have been if the teacher had punched back.

He would have been fired on the spot. I once took a kid down and put him in a double chicken wing and the police cuffed me and took me to office. I was exonerated but left the profession shortly thereafter - the kid was 6'3'' 230 and was beating on a little 130 lb kid so I foot swept him and then just laid on him.

We had a similar one here NJ earlier in the week. 4 students ganged up on a teacher and they weren't EH/MH. Beat the crap out of him in the classroom.
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.
