If you are driving to GC check the website and make sure the north rim is still open. It closes around this time of year. The south rim will be open but it is a longgggg drive.
Also, if you take in Hoover Dam, take some time to drive past the dam. There are areas where the road gets close to the Colorado River, enough to walk down for a little picnic on the tree line and take in the mountains on the other side. (when I say close enough, 1/4-1/2 mile from the road)
