I'm a big Newsboys fan (I've seen them in concert many times) but I'm also a big fan of Jars. Seen them in concert half a dozen times. I loved their first album.
Vais and Snackem, if you like Jars of Clay, you would probably love Third Day. I've seen them twice and they sound as good in concert as they do on CD. And their entire Christmas CD is great. It's called Christmas Offerings and I highly recommend it.
Perhaps it is just an old English folk tune with an interesting history, but it has a strong association with Christmas for me.

AS for my favorite singular performance of a song, I'll agree with Springsteen's Santa Claus is Coming to Town or the aforementioned Bing Crosby "White Christmas".
