I think i'm going to re-organize the photos, so there's not so many pages, but the download time is nuts.
Here's the latest offering
It’s about 1:38 here in Baku and it’s been a busy afternoon here in the lobby of the Hotel Absheron. After a day of catching up on sleep, floundering around in a hotel that’s smaller than my first college dorm room and trying to figure out the internet here, it’s been a good day.
I followed the World Team over for a small afternoon workout and ended up getting a small, but pretty solid story on the workout made some news happen. I do know one thing, I’m not wearing any good polo shirts to workouts anymore – it gets hot in there even if you’re not doing anything but taking pictures and trying to stay out of the way.
So far, we’ve got a packed house here working on the wireless – Doc Bennett’s reading Craig Sesker’s journal recap over Travis Shives’ shoulder,
Spenser Mango is making sure Jake Fisher’s test is going ok, then there’s Sesker laughing about Spenser’s chicken basket on the third floor. Then my roommate – Pete Isaias, looking like he’s busy with ONLY 18 e-mails in the last few hours.
To compare, I got 50. But not to compare, but I just did.
Dinner was decent, some type of beef and some type of chicken, but I guess there’s only one type of chicken, right? By contrast, it seems like lunch was ages ago, that wasn’t too bad either.
The lobby here right now is a mess, there are several international delegations waiting to be processed … some have been here so long – like North Korea – passed out tired on the couches.
It was rather breezy today, and I still haven’t found one of those nesting dolls that co-worker Pat Tocci wants me to pick up for him. One thing that has been a pleasant surprise has been the local beers. I talked about the “one that begins with an X” last night and today it was “33” Export … which wasn’t too bad. I’m putting this in here because Pat wants to know my thoughts on the beer, since everyone thinks that is my specialty, which is not the case.
As mentioned earlier, Jake Fisher of the USOEC at Northern Michigan was taking a test for his Psychological Statistics. It was reliant on him being connected to the internet and some time of the way through, the internet went down and I walked to the front desk to check on it.
After a difficult conversation with the desk clerk – she speaks little English, I speak too fast English, I went over, made sure the security guard was out of sight and re-set the wireless router, which was conveniently located on the counter.

Jake finished up and we just sat around waiting for some important wrestling announcement. Martin Floreani just showed back up, so we’ve got themat.com, InterMat and
flowrestling all within five feet of each other. Good times.
So for the time being, I don’t have much else to add, other than there are more teams piling in. I think the Turkish delegation joined the North Koreans in passing out on the couches.
Thankfully, there’s no one smoking around here, which can’t be said for anything else in this hotel.
Until the AM … well, later this AM, where it’s already Friday.
