I know this isn't a big deal for you guys, particularly in the overall scheme of "big time football".... but I'm so proud of this kid I could just explode and I had to brag on him a little bit I've been watching him play since he was little, his dad is the head coach at Clayton HS, which is the team I spend most of my Friday nights in the fall going to see play. Each year, the Air Force Academy picks one senior whose number they use on the replica jerseys that fans can buy, and this year it's Drew's. Not bad for a "slow white boy from small-town eastern NC"

Anyway, I know we had a "rule" that allows for parents to brag on their kids... he's not my blood but I think of him as a brother.

Drew Fowler Earns MWC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

Senior earns honor with 14-tackle performance against Utah.

    Sept. 10, 2007

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force senior linebacker Drew Fowler was named Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the week for football games through Sept. 8. Fowler joins New Mexico's Donovan Porterie and John Sullivan, who were named MWC Offensive and Special Teams players of the week.

Fowler, a native of Clayton, N.C., recorded a game-high 14 tackles, including six solo stops, in Air Force's 20-12 victory at Utah. Ten of his tackles came in the second half and the 14 total were the second-most of his career. Fowler and teammate Hunter Altman combined to stop Utah running back Darryl Poston on a fourth-and-goal with just over minute to play in the game to preserve the Falcon victory.

Fowler led the Falcons in tackles for the 13th time in his career. This is Fowler's second MWC player of the week honor.

I will smash your face into a car windshield and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth, out to a nice seafood dinner and never call her again!

Tell me about it, this morning, I woke up and I shit a squirrel, but what I can't get is the damn thing is still alive. So now, I've got a shit covered squirrel running around my office and I don't know what to name it.

No matter which sport, it always nice to watch / read about someone you know do well at the collegiate level. No objection to the brag here. It makes you a tad bit prouder when it's someone at an academy.

Wouldn't it just be a crush then? Or have I been missing something for the past 14 months?

They just beat TCU for the first time since 1987. Big come from behind win in OT. Drew got his first career INT, and almost had 2.

Another North Carolina kid, Jim Ollis who has been converted to RB, had a good game too. He won a few state wrestling championships in high school. On 4th and inches he busted out a 70 yard run for the game tying TD

Oh and apparently there was a nice interview with Drew at halftime but I was at my dance class so I'll have to rewind my DVR to watch it
