This baseball story is hilarious--the umpire's reaction made me laugh out loud.

Always loved reading this story when I used to crack open my old "Peanuts and Crackerjacks" book. Cracked me up then that he thought of it, and cracks me up now.

Somehow I missed the story when it happened. I think I was working graveyard shift that year, and my world was turned upside down.

I can't believe he planned it and then carried it out without busting a gut or dropping the potato or something. I mean, it must have taken some nerves to tell the ump his mitt was broken, walk over and get the loaded one, call the pitch, switch the potato to his hand, catch the pitch, then fire the spud. That's what I call multitasking under pressure.
