    Default Bonanza/ Gun Smoke

My wife's grandma lives with us now. She is 92. Besides doing word searches and jigsaw puzzles, she loves to watch Bonanza and Gun Smoke on TVLand. I am too young to have watched them when they came out, but since she has moved in, I have been watching.

Actually, they kick ass! I don't know if any of you remember watching them back in the day, but if you did, do you still try to catch an episode? It's amazing to see all the actors who later became popular, that were on those shows. Gun Smoke usually ends with my wife and me wondering who that guest star was.

So far I've been able to name Gary Busey, Anne Margret, the dude who played Ernest T. Bass, Ned Beatty and Ted Knight. Did Clint or the Duke ever play in these two shows? And who else should I look for?

I watched them when they originally aired. Bonanza was one of the first shows to be aired in color, and we used to go to my friend's house to watch it because he had a color tv. There were so many actors in those shows and others (Twilight Zone had many) who were unknown at the time and are now famous that I couldn't even think to name them, but I do watch the reruns and spot them as you do.

I used to watch them both a lot (as reruns) with my dad and grandfather. Both are very good shows.

See if you can find "Have Gun Will Travel" from the same period. Well acted and an interesting premise.

And a great theme song. In fact, most of the westerns of that era had great theme songs: Maverick, Cheyenne, Sugarfoot, Bronco, Rawhide, and many more

I love Bonanza and have a few seasons on DVD . My favorite episodes center around Hoss or Little Joe. Adams episodes are kind of a drag and the shows about Ben are predictable but still great. I watch the sho when it is on tv and I make my kids watch it. I dont like Gun Smoke but I do like Branded and I cant stand the Big valley.

It was a tv show starring Richard Boone, possibly the ugliest leading man on tv. It may be hard to find because there was a Chinese character named "Hey Boy" who was subservient to the main character. The main character, Paladin, was a gunfighter for hire who dressed in black when he was working, quoted Shakespeare (usually Macbeth), and gave out buisness cards with a chess knight logo.

But you've got to admit Audra (a young Linda Evans) was easy on the eyes.
