This is actually a pretty good list, even though there are quite a few songs on it that I like. But I can understand why they made the list I suppose. However, the list isn't complete without "Tom's Diner" which I think has to be the worst song of all time.

    Now who are yours
If I had to choose only one, then it would be Stevie Ray Vaughan. The list below would then include: Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and T-Bone Walker. But then, I'm more of a blues fan.

As for Rush, it is a travesty that they've never even been nominated for induction into the RR Hall. As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. Rush's sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band. So, general popularity isn't a problem. However, I agree that Rush is just not understood by most non-musicians and music fans in general. If you actually look at the complexity of their songs, and then hear how they're somehow able to pull them off live with just three guys, it's mind blowing.

Now to the list.....How is "99 red baloons" not on that list? or did I miss it? Then again, I'm not sure which song I'd leave off the list to include that piece of 100% mind numbing trash.

Because I'm such a huge music freak (collector, listener, trivia buff), I couldn't resist chiming in on this one about greatest guitar players.

With about 3,000-4,000 different pieces of music in my collection, it took me YEARS to figure out why I could never answer the questions of "best album ever," "best song ever," or "best guitar player ever." I came to the realization several years ago that all musicians are the best at what they do, which is their own style. To me, that has always made more sense than thinking of one as "the greatest."

With that said, if someone put a gun to my head and forced me to say "best ever," I'd have to go with Jimi Hendrix, even though I'm not a great Hendrix fan.. His styling and technique are mind blowing. However, here are some of my personal favorite guitar players, in no particular order:

    Eric Clapton
    David Gilmour
    Johnny Winter
    Chet Atkins
    Ry Cooder
    Jerry Garcia
    Jorma Kaukonen
    Mark Knopfler
    Mike Bloomfield
    Johnny Hiland
    Albert King
    Peter Green
    Clarence White
    Frank Zappa
    Dickey Betts
    Waylon Jennings
    Vernon Reid
    Steve Howe
    Alvin Lee

I can't believe that when I was listing my "best" I left off Lester William Polsfus - better known as Les Paul.

    R.I.P. Cyrano and Roxanne.

I forgot to include my favorite slide guitarist, Lowell George. If you don't know his name, he was the original guitarist for Little Feat.

For one, overrated, and two, I'm not a great fan. However, I'm also not a great fan of Hendrix either.

As I said in my post, my list is not a "greatest" list, just guitar players that I like.

Lowell George is one of my music heros. I guess I was never so sold on his guitar playing as others have been, but I love his songs and the early Little Feat stuff!
