Actually, it was poorly attended 10 years ago and many people are already saying they cannot make it this year either. Those that are back in town visiting parents/family are going to be spending those few days with their parents/family and therefore cannot attend reunion activities. Many of them have children and have to split time during the holiday weekend between their family and their spouse's family.

That's too bad. If you have moved away from your hometown as I have, and lose touch with your high school friends and acquaintances, reunions can really be fun. All it takes is one reconnection to make it worthwhile.

We went to my wife's reunion last year. It was in the summer, but they had a deal where everyone met at the most popular bar from her hometown on Friday. It was called something, but basically it was free and got people loosened up. We did attend her reunion the next day, but it was way too formal and people didn't really talk like they did at the bar. The same old friends sat with the same old friends and no one branched out like the night before.

I really hope mine isn't that petty because that isn't how I remember our class. But sometimes life smacks you right in the face and you just have to accept it.

By the way, Spider, my wife agreed with your opinion on the Kakis (chinos?) and I guess I'm going with that. Thank you, sir.

For the next one, a fun game is to walk up to your spouse's classmates and act like you remember them, see if you can get them to play along.

Proper reunion etiquette is to get blind drunk and tell everyone exactly how you felt about them in high school and if your not married try to score with your high school crush. Then make up with them in your drunkenness and become best friends for the weekend. My 10 year reunion did not have alcohol so I didn't go, that and I still talk frequently to all my friends from school even though I live 800 miles away.

    With facebook, are reunions obsolete?

Getting ready to hit the shower and head out for the 20 year reunion. I've made a pact with myself that I will punch the third person who tries to tell me about their kids. It's open bar and I'm there to seem my classmates not hear about some soccer mom's little kid. The first two people will get a pass, but the third may just get frogged in the arm. I'd love to punch them out, but I don't think I pack that good of a punch. I just hope she doesn't punch back! (Notice I said she, not he.)

Last night I was doing a restaurant review dinner at a hotel dining room, and the Class of 1970 of a local high school was having its Friday night mixer. I was amazed how loud these folks were! And this was early in the evening!

Hope all goes well with your reunion. Eager to hear all about it.
