The Big Ten announced its divisional breakdown Wednesday night and Ohio State and Michigan will be in different six-team divisions when the league expands to 12 members in 2011.

Neither division has been named but they break down like this:

Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota and Northwestern in one.

Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana in the other.

U Mich vs. the Buckeyes isn't the only permanent inter divisional rivalry game that was created. Each team will have one permanent inter-league rivalry game. What's interesting is that the conference blew out the Penn State rivalries with Michigan State (The Land Grant Trophy) and Minnesota (Governor's Bell) in favor of creating a rivalry with Nebraska.

Not only is it possible for UM and tOSU to meet during the season and then for the championship, the other rivalries could have the same result. Essentially, it's the same scheduling model used by the SEC, though B10 will likely add a 2nd inter-conference game in the near future.

    The B10+2 Inter-league Rivalries
    Michigan vs Ohio State
    Nebraska vs Penn State
    Iowa vs Purdue
    Michigan State vs Indiana
    Northwestern vs Illinois
    Minnesota vs Wisconsin

Most of the annual "trophy" rivalries were retained, a few were set aside, only to be contested every 10 years or so as the inter-conference game rotates to a different school.

    Saved Trophy Rivalry Games
Michigan vs Minnesota for the Little Brown Jug (an annual contest since 1903)
Purdue vs Indiana for the Old Oaken Bucket (the bucket dates to the Civil War)
Northwestern vs Illinois for the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk
Minnesota vs Wisconsin for Paul Bunyan's Axe
Minnesota vs Iowa for Floyd of Rosedale (a bronze pig)
Michigan State vs Indiana for the Old Brass Spittoon
Michigan State vs Michigan for the Paul Bunyan Trophy
Ohio State vs. Illinois for a wooden turtle, the "Illibuck"
Illinois vs Northwestern for the Land of Lincoln Trophy
Illinois vs Purdue for the Purdue Cannon

    Rivalry Trophies to Collect Dust
Iowa vs Wisconsin for the Heartland Trophy, a brass bull
Penn State vs Michigan State for the Land Grant Trophy (a pretty dumb one wasn't it)
Penn State vs Minnesota for the Governor's Victory Bell (tough one to guess, a brass bell)
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.
