I thought it was even more impressive given the huge build up. The pressure on him was immense and somehow he was able to rise to the challenge. Sure, it was just the Pirates, but 14k's and 0 walks for any power pitcher is a very solid game.

Doesnt matter who it was not many teams are successful against 101 mph heat.

Congrats to the young man. I feel that a few times around the league most major leaguers will catch up and expect the fast ball, once he developes a strong curve ball and off speed pitch he will be even more dominant.

I agree completely that guys will be better against him when the scout him more (and when he isn't pitching against the worst offensive team in the league), but he already has a flat out nasty curve, and his change up is great, too. His 90 MPH change. The scouting reports on him are that he already has 4 very good major league pitches. Once he learns how to use them all like a major leaguer, the sky's the limit.

Obviously you didn't see his curve ball. It was a talking point on an entire segment of Sportscenter. It is the best curveball I've seen since Burt Blyleven.

What's impressive isn't so much the speed of his fastball. There have been plenty of pitchers that could reach 100 over the years. What's impressive is his control at that speed and that even at 99mph his ball has movement. Throw in the 90mph change that has heavy downward movement and the 80mph curve that he can locate and you've got the makings of a dominant pitcher. Those huge speed changes along with the movement and location will give hitters fits. I just hope his elbow and shoulder can handle the strain that he puts on them.

He's also lucky to be thowing to a great defensive catcher like Pudge.
