    Default Stupidity & Arrogance

Looks like Michael Vick may plead quilty within the week. The feds have cut deals with 3 witnesses that will testify against him. It also looks like if he pleas, he'll still get jail time, maybe as much as 5 years. I'm guessing 3 and out in 2. I'm just waiting for the IRS to step for failing to report gambling income.

I remember watching him, in awe, when he was that freshman QB at VTech. Incredible talent. In 2004 he signed a 10 year contract for $130,000,000 which means he'll be shedding just shy of $100,000,000 that remains. Add in the lost Nike deal and his dog trade will cost him well over $100 M.

You'll not see MV of the ballfield again, even if he gets out in 2 years. Unfortunately, he has probably banked $20 mil. He doesn't deserve a nickel of it.

Why? We live in such a forgiving society. There will be one owner, at least, who would take a risk to bring him in. By then the uproar over him will have died down, and there will be less pressure from fans and media.
He let himself down, for what...a woman. I say, go be a world champion let the women come to you......Tito Ortiz

I listened to a sports radio show that made a lot of sense to me about this issue.

Basically they were discussing how athletes from humble backgrounds and poor family structure cling to there "friends" / homeboys as their family. Sort the same way young people turn to gangs.

Anyway, when these athletes hit it big and become instance millionaires they bring their pseudo family along for the ride. In other words...they don't forget where they came from.

They went on to say that Vick probably bought his buddys this house and gave them money.

Unfortunately, they used it to finance and run a dog fighting ring.

Sure MV knew about and probably even participated.

The saddest part of the story is that they are all now turning on him.

I'll still be shocked if he does any time, especially for just dog fighting, and if he does no way in HELL he does three years. (not that I don't recognize that participating in dog fighting is absolutely disgusting)

Leonard Little, a D-end on the Rams drove drunk and killed a lady, he did 90 days, Jamal Lewis did 4 months for setting up a crack deal, Vick aint going to go for no 3 years for dog fighting.

Not saying that its right either, just being realistic.

There's also the little matter of the illegal gambling ring revolving around the dog fighting...

I agree. I don't want this to be painted out as my defending Vick either, I think he's a scum bag, but the charge that he's going to do three years is laughable.

I'll still be surprised if he goes to jail at all, and I'd be absolutely shocked if he does more than six months.

    The Fed's don't mess around.

They aren't going to go through this kind of investigation to give him a slap on the wrist.

I think he's going to jail for over a year.

    ---

I predict he pleads guilty soon and hopes for a reduced sentence.

I will agree since it is a federal lawsuit expect a little harsher punishment.

I don't condone in anyway his alleged wrongdoings. But to ask how this would happen, you probably have to take into consideration his background rather than simply attributing it to some inherent flaw. Becoming a millionaire doesn't necessarily make anyone smarter, or wiser, or better. Not a slam on rural folks, but he was likely raised "country" and "poor" and internalized some attitudes that came with his upbringing, including some less-than-desireable ones. I wonder if he was coddled or protected in college because of his athletic talent.

I have the sense that dog-fighting and cock-fighting and all that stuff happens all over, so maybe there are a lot more "stupid and arrogant" people out there besides Vick.
