I second what Zapp said; Australia was awful. They should play them and Greece off for last place right now.

Brazil has more talent than anybody else. But with that country they often have too many great players, and only one ball. Getting that talent to mesh is always a challenge. 'If' they do then they should win it.

    Defense win championships.

    Watch out for Italy.

Going to be tough for them given the issues that they have with scoring, they had a really tough go from Paraguay today.

If they make it into the single elimination round they will play a version of working for the ball grab. See if you can sneek in a goal, and if you can't play for nil/nil and win it with a keeper who has been working/specializing on shoot outs.

FWIW, long ball defense (and offense) has been an Italian tradition for decades. In this Cup if you score against them they are doomed. They are a little long in tooth to mount a comeback.

93rd minute goal gives New Zealand the 1-1 goal against Slovakia and makes Group F a complete dead heat with the 1-1 draw between Italy and Paraguay yesterday.

If we want to make a run we have to win this group. I think Germany presents a nightmare matchup for us. Whereas I think we have a chance to make a run possibly to the semis if we hit Serbia/Ghana and then (gulp) France. However as elite teams go I like our chances against France alright. We'd hit brazil then and it'd be all over but the fact that a run to the semi's is conceivable is really cool.

I have the cart WAY ahead of the horse but dreaming and hoping are part of what make sports great.

Germany will maim us if we play them. I would like to see us make a run, but would be pretty shocked if we did.

Not a bad showing by North Korea in only taking a 2-1 defeat to the Brazilians.

While they probably won't advance they seemingly have the ability to play a spoiler for Portugal or Ivory Coast in their coming games with the way that they play defense.
