I'll own up to being a Theta Chi. Now you have to remember this is going back in time.

The legal drinking age was 18. We had three open taps in the basement that were accessible at anytime to the brothers - cost was included in the annual dues. A deloivery truck pulled in every Tuesday afternnon to replenish the supply. The taps were free flowing to females all day Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday till 12AM, but they could only leave empty handed.

Above all, the cost was 2/3 of campus housing and meals with our dues including unlimited supply of all you can eat 24/7. We employed 2 chefs and 2 housekeepers.

We had 4 file cabinets in the basement that contained notes and tests from evey prof and every course. You'd be amazed at how many profs replicate their tests term to term without changing a comma. We knew which ones did and those that didn't.

We had term papers on about topic imaginable and a strict rule they were not to copied verbatim (don't want to plagiarize you know). You had to leave a $20 deposit if you wanted to borrow something. Our chair of academic affairs was required to review every paper before it was handed in just to be sure it wasn't plagiarized, then you got your $20 back when you turned in the graded paper and the originals. You always had to add to the paper in some way based on feedback from p[ast grading.

PS - with all of the above - no one really cared about those that thought they could beat our asses. Many tried and failed. We had guys like you beat to the ground in many many others ways....and you never even knew it.

Hey I never said frats weren't useful and we all know sorority's are very useful. I can admit to having my ass kicked by multiple frat guys, it was just all of them at once. Hell I even got thown off a second story balcony at a frat party at UofA for showing up uninvited and then pissing on the alumni photos.

I just never got along with people who thought they were better than everyone and paid money to have friends and then would go through total humiliation to prove themselves to somebody. Just not my thing I guess. I am sure nobody that is on this board was one of these guys and I know many of you probably hate me for saying this.

IF you had been on the inside of one, you'd know that wasn't the attitude of the group toward others. IF it was, our doors and open taps probably would have been closed to you, but they weren't, they were open to all on the weekends and plenty took advantage of the opportunity to join us, because you couldn't find your own batch of female friends.

Personally, I never felt any humilation about pledging, maybe because we weren't obligated to make paddles, or do any other ridiculous stunts.

As for paying to have friends, obviously you didn't read my initial post completely. Shame, shame on you.

Every chapter has a multitude of personalities. Some you like, some you don't, but don't think that is any single attitude that pervades the group as a whole.

I have four brothers that I remain very close to today. We pledged together. We graduated together. We were in each others wedding party, we've vacationed together we visit with each other in the summer and on the holidays. Our friendships are much stronger than any I had in high school and any I've had since. No I have not a single regret. Pledging with that group was probably the second smartest decision I made in my life.

Oh yea, we had a guy piss in the living room once. We tied him to a tree out front where anyone could piss on him when they felt the urge. No one tried that stunt again while I was living there.

Ryou I am obviously making a blanket statement about frats and I know not all are the same. I am sure you had a great time all i can speak for is my experience with them.

Like I said I was thrown off a balcony for peeing on the photos and believe me I never did it again. I just poured paint thinner on all of their cars after the ribs and ankle healed. Now people peeing on someone that is a little too much for me and I would have had to burn your frat house down for that.

A bit risky, but not undeserved.

"I just poured paint thinner on all of their cars after the ribs and ankle healed."

Must have been fat in cash to afford that one.

"I would have had to burn your frat house down for that."

Pretty brainless to risk 20 years and all over your own doing don't you think.

They weren't open to us, in fact the wrestlers were banned from every frat house in town, they didn't appreciate us drinking all their beer, and taking all their women

We had that in our sorority house too, came in very handy. Even if the questions weren't the same, you got an idea of the style of tests the professor used, and the types of questions. At the very least it was useful study material. Of course, since I was the only "Peace, War, and Defense" major in the sorority (imagine that), it only helped me to a certain extent
