My wife and I read that a few months ago. Good book. And it's a pretty easy read, too.

I am getting ready to start My Losing Season by Pat Conroy. I finished The Great Santini and I have to say thank you to ODH. Great book! If the other one is half as good, then I won't be disappointed.

Oh, and Payton, I now know what you meant by keeping a dictionary close by. Dude is one of the best wordsmiths I've ever read.

As I used to say , everyday ,during my adolescence upon awakening ,''A Problem Has Arisen'', so too with the Secret Destiny of America; Hall seems to be an apolegist for secret societies , especially the Free Masons-often saying the NEED for secrecy so mebers can conduct their sacred rituals in PRIVATE.
WHAT RITUALS ?? sacrificing babies ? eating mushrooms ? licking toads ? Although Hall is a genius in discovering alot of american history-(unknown to many)-including me-his saying that secret societies are elite ,ILLUMINATED individuals banding together to plot out america's destiny is reminiscient of the old communist saying ''some are more equal than others''-IF Hall is correct, we should just relax and let these people take over all of our lives !
He calls this the UNKNOWN PHILOSOPHERS city. Members of the ORDER of the QUEST supposedly have been working for millenia to bring this perfect united state together.
This book is worth the time-I have dissected and researched his findings and have found his research and facts amazing-stuff not taught in schools--but his conclusions that we should realx and enjoy the ride go against everything I believe. Hall's work should be judged by each individual reader. I for one do NOT feel the need to run out and joins the Masons or the woman in the wilderness or any esoteric group .

Just finished CIRCLE of SIX-the true account of the assassination of a NY patrolman .This account is from Randy Jorgensen-the lead detective on the case and speaks of thje malfeasance and straight BS which goes on at 1pp-Phil Cardillo was shot and killed in 1972 while answering a FAKE 10/13 (officer in distress), upon arriving at Mosque 7 he and his partner were jumped and beaten by 16 members of the FOI (fruit of Islam)-Phil was killed and his partner savagely beaten-when Jorgensen arrived he tried to take the crime scene but was ordered to stand down by his superiors-a deal was struck by the mayor , the police chief and ben ward // and Louis Farakhan . the ensueing cover -up kept the lid on this story until recently and Randy Jorgenson does an excellent job taking the reader back to that time and place and retells a story THAT must never DIE !!
An excellent read-onenight-that shows you the absolute BS which the NYPD must deal with on a daily basis .

    Russel,

No, the statute of limitaions has run out and LOuis 17X Dupree was the only who who was ever indicted and charged for anything. However in 198, a special prosecutors office was formed and for 2 years invistagated the whole incident. Their findings published in the NY Times in 1982 found the mayor, the PC and several high ranking members of the dept. guilty of mis and non feesons (a crime) here again, by 1982, the statue of limitations had run out and nobody was charged with anything. Thanks for your comments.

This is the response I received from Detective Jogensen.

Pretty nice trailer for a new book by Sylvia Nasar, who also wrote "A Beautiful Mind". Lots of interesting little economic factoids in the video. This video made me think two things - (1) when did they start making trailers for books? and (2) I wish I had artistic ability. The drawing is really cool.

Got a pretty cool "bathroom reader-type" book. It's called Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Basically it lists bands that Eddie thinks are essential for the genre in alphabetical order with stories from them and Eddie. It lists all of their albums and then Eddie gives his essential songs from each. Most of the time he doesn't give hit songs, it's basically his best of the rest, I guess. Anyway, I have been listening to a lot of songs that I haven't heard from bands I really like. The early Aerosmith stuff like Lord of the Thighs and Black Sabbath's Hole in the Sky and I didn't realize how good some of the new Motorhead is....The one band I think is really missing is Bad Co. but maybe he just doesn't like them. It starts off with AC/DC and covers Bon Jovi, Priest, Maiden, GnR, Crue, Rush, Motorhead... (35 in all)and ends with Van Halen. Pretty cool to read the stories and really cool to look up songs you may have never heard before.

My father in law owns some rental properties and one of them has a detached garage that we are tearing down. I cleaned it out two days ago and found a tote with some stuff in it from an old tenant. That stuff had been in there from the early nineties. An old Nirvana CD still with the plastic wraping, stonewashed jeans with the pleat down the middle, love letters about make out sessions. Pretty funny stuff. I also found Bo Jacksons autobiography, Bo Knows Bo.

Pretty good book. Very easy read. The thing I don't like about it is that it was written before he got hurt. I'd like to see a sequel to it so we get some perspective on his injury and where his life is at now after his athletic days are done. One thing is for sure though, he was a great athlete and would probably be ranked #1 if I had to put a list together of pure athletes. I watched youtube highlights of him for an hour last night after I finished the book. He was something else.

Thanks quinn. I would have never guessed that he would own a bank, but after reading the book, it doesn't suprise me.
