Pretty amazing how Everest gets all of the pub, solely because it's the highest peak. Other mountains (K2 specifically) are much more dangerous and not climbed as often. Viesturs most recent book is all about K2 - I have it here and I've only read the first 50 pages or so. For some reason I drifted into other books, but I'll eventually get back to it.

Yeah the Viestrus book is incredible, but if you think that K2 is nuts then read up on Annapurna . If you like the Viestrus book then you should definitely check out High Exposure. Recently finished "The Given Day" by Dennis Lehane. Good book that should be made into a movie. He also wrote "Mystic River" "Gone, Baby, Gone" and "Shutter Island"

I am saving money by trying to finish every unread book that I have collected over the years. My wife's book club books have been getting redundant, so I have been tackling books I bought years ago at a used book sale at a library:

I just finished "education of a Yankee" by Judson Hale. Hale is the editor of Yankee magazine and comes from old money, but had a very unorthodox upbringing. It is probably out of print now, I picked it up after I heard him speak and it had a lot of local tie-ins for me.

Right now, I am reading "Jack" by AM Holmes. I've have read some of her other books and they were very good but a little too graphic. This one seems a lot more tame so far.

I recently read "the Road", it was well written but a little too bleak and monotonous for my taste. I much preferred the Stand, which is one of my favorites. It's pretty awesome.

When reading ''The Stand'' remember it was written several years before known outbreaks of the AIDS virus occurred - King is eerily prophetic in many of his works -went from being unable to pay his phone bill to selling CARRIE and becoming a billionaire seemingly overnight -rather Faustian .

Did you read "Gone, Baby, Gone," and if so, did you like it? I have read or am reading all the others.

"The Given Day" is his first book that I have read. I saw Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Baby and I almost never read a book if I have seen the movie first.
