My reaction if I were that school's Principal would be to tell the coach he did the best he could under the circumstances and to tell the parents if their son cannot maintain his composure on the field he cannot play sports.
I can guarantee you that the coach would be ripped apart in court if he claimed that grabbing and pull a kid by his face mask was the best way to handle this situation.

Many people who work with kids are trained in appropriate ways to restrain kids. Grabbing face masks is not part of the program.

From the apparent bravado coming from coaches posting on this thread, I suggest some of you get some training yourselves.

I should add that I had a wrestler who flipped out and tried to head-butt, elbow, etc. while we were wrestling. I was on top, just stayed calm and kept him from hurting me, and it diffused the situation, he apologized and all has been well sense. Had I went off and whooped his ass things would have been really messy and i am glad i didn't

    Sue me for what?

I mean really, who's at fault here? The coach who choice to not have his continue to be an embarrassment or the athlete who was a complete dumbass?

As a coach, I've seen too many times where these dumbass kids think they can get away with that kind of attitude because they either see it on TV or their parents themselves are dumbasses.

If it were myself, I'd would've done the same thing and then they kid wouldn't rode the bench for the year.

There is a real lack of discipline in the US, thus the reason why kids get away with the crap they do now. We've given all the power to the kids and they know it.

Its an open invite to any kid who thinks they can be an a$$ on a sports team and think the coach is wrong for getting in their face for it. Kids nowadays think there are no repercussions for their stupid actions. This kid is no exception and the coach had every right to put him in his place. And if a kid thinks he can fight me over it, I welcome it.

I'll give you a perfect example of what's wrong with America's youth and why this behavior shouldn't be tolerated.

My first year working at a school, I had a kid who was a pain in the a$$ all the time. Not necessarily to me, but to the teacher I was working with(who was an older lady).

One period, while she's taking role, the kid won't stop talking loud while she's taking role. Eventually she tells him to shut his mouth and he tells her not to tell him that "you fcking b!tch," under his breathe. Of course she doesn't hear him, but I do and I send him to the office, write him up and write down word for word what he says.

So, of course his mother is called in and the vice-principal, myself, mother and son have a meeting about it. The mother starts in on how the teacher had no right to tell her son to "shut his mouth" and that the teacher needed to respect her son.

I'm just sitting there in awe in the belief that she thinks the teacher was wrong for her son being a piece of crap. Then the vice-principal just kind of laughs and says the teacher had every right to tell her son to shut it because it was her classroom and if he's a disruption, then he got what he deserved. The mom is yelling and cursing(that's when I realized why the kid was a dumbass in the first place) about how her son doesn't need to respect the teacher at all and that she should only respect him. The VP finally just said she wouldn't win the arguement and that her son was suspended and if she had an issue with it, go to the school board, but she would most definately lose that battle as well.

Eventually the kid got in trouble one too many times and got kicked out.

Point is not only do these kids nowadays think they can do and say whatever they want, but their parents back this stupid behavior up.
