Fargo or Jerry McGuire should have won over the English Patient but generally the Academy are a bunch of wanking fairies so they get it wrong quite a bit.

I've been called worse ...

The movie, honestly, was terrible. Slow, trifling. 30 minutes into it, my buddy went "let's go, this sucks."

I wanted to see if it would pick up. It never did. Such a great cast, such a terrible movie.

I liked the movie a lot. Not the Coen's best work, but familiar Coen fare and certainly one of the better movies I saw this year at the theater. The bizarre, frequently vapid characters, the absurd plot twists and the memorably weird dialogue. It evokes bits of many of the Coen's previous movies, including The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona and Fargo.

Critics are the political pundits of the movie industry. You of all people should know to take what the pundits say with a grain of salt. All the critical acclaim and awards in the world don't necessarily make a movie enjoyable for the typical movie-goer.

I think most people at rottontomatoes are just regular people. Might be wrong about that, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Thanks Dingo. Just took a quick look. Appears they have both - a critic rating (where they consider ratings of those who review movies for a living - for a magazine, newspaper, website, TV show, etc.) and a community rating (where they consider ratings of their registered users).

The Coen brothers are hit or miss for me but when they hit I really love them. I will still give this one a shot as I enjoy several of the actors in it and I thought the previews looked good.

They won some award or another for 'No country for Old Men' and I liked that much less than their retelling of Ulysses ,' O' Brother Where Art Thou?'-Raising Arizona ruled -I was living in glendale at the time and none of the locals liked it but it was dead on -I especially liked Randall 'Tex' Cobb's character , just about what every biker i saw looked like out there .

Previews did look great, which is another reason I was let down. I haven't been let down by movie previews so bad since I saw "Spaced Invaders" when I was like 11.

Those aliens did NOT chant "Toga! Toga!" in the movie like they did on the previews.

Bastards.
