Yes and yes, according to the assistant principal.

"The Robbinses said they learned of the alleged webcam images when Lindy Matsko, an assistant principal at Harriton High School, told their son Blake that school officials thought he had engaged in improper behavior at home. The behavior was not specified in the suit.

"(Matsko) cited as evidence a photograph from the webcam embedded in minor plaintiff's personal laptop issued by the school district," the suit states. The behavior was not specified in the suit, which did not make clear whether the family had seen any photographs captured by school officials.

Matsko later confirmed to Michael Robbins that the school had the ability to activate the webcams remotely, according to the suit, which was filed Tuesday and which seeks class-action status."

Thinking someone has engaged in improper behavior at home is in no way evidence that they were spying on the kid at home.

Having a picture taken on the computers webcam doesn't mean the school hacked into the kids computer and took the picture. The kid could have taken the picture on his own, sent it to friends, who sent it to more friends and eventually onto the school.

If there was real evidence that the school was doing this wouldn't some law enforcement (FBI maybe) group be investigating? The family sueing instead of reporting to the proper authorities (the article doesn't mention any actual investigation) suggests, at least to me, that the family is looking for a pay-day/settlement.

Sully, I don't know anything more than what's in the article, and I don't have any skin in the game (so to speak). I'm not trying to argue either way, my only point is that if the school monitored remotely then someone should be punished. Hopefully it will all be sorted out in court.

Neither do I, my point was that the article seems like it's trying to imply that accusations are facts. If they had presented a rational look at what both sides are saying they probably wouldn't sell as many papers.

Here is more info, apparently the school district could (allegedly) turn on the monitoring equipment (video monitor) if they believed the computer was stolen or missing.

Sounds like someone was using for a reason other than theft recovery.

The assistant principal showed Blake a photograph taken by a webcam and said it appeared as if the student was taking drugs.

The teen claims that he was actually holding pieces of Mike & Ike, his favorite candy, according to the Inquirer.
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.

Again, this is not evidence that anyone at the school had hacked into the kids computer, it's only evidence that a picture was taken of the kid on a webcam.
