Outside of figure skating (and all of the derivatives there of) I'll watch as many events as humanly possible.

Fair enough... that was the first opening ceremonies I've ever watched, and I thought it was well done (other than the torch not rising from the arena floor properly- how embarassing.)

Honestly though, I feel like the success of these Olympics will be defined by many Canadians based on how our men's hockey team does, as unfair as that is to our other athletes and the event organizers.

Their opening ceremonies MAL-FUNCTIONED in a front a billion TV viewers. The only 3 of the 4 stands rose out of the ground in the last part of it.

Also with the Georgian Luger being killed horrifically in that test run yesterday, these Olympics are off to a suspicious start.

Why the hell lip of the wall does not have a net on it is beyond me. At least that beam should have better padded. Omg.

The luge crash was awful. There have been concerns about the track for a while, though the investigation found that slider error rather than a defective track led to the accident. They showed the fatal run in slow-motion several times, the poor guy was wobbling all over the place from the start.

Bull shit - they're in denial. It is expected that lugers and bobsledders will lose control. The Georgian created such a high G force coming out of the turn he couldn't control the sled. That's the result of track design, not sledder error. Allowing exposed steel beams at the exit of a turn is ludicrous. That type of accident was foreseeable. The sledders had expressed concern about the safety of the track months ago and even yesterday before the accident when it was first brought on line.

By the way, it's the same track where they will run the 2 and 4 man bobsled. The luge flies, but that four man bob will have a lot more inertia.
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.
