I know Ugly but what good is it when most Americans feel they are seeing a great Democracy winning the battle when in reality Sparta and Persians differed very little.

    Big,

The Spartans were the warrior class of Greece and they were still a Democracy to a degree. THey had a senate that had certain powers and it created a check and balances system to a degree. The point of the movie is not to promote democracy, if there was an underlying moral I would say it would be stand up for what is right no matter what the cost.

Whatever limited Democracy Sparta had was limited to those that had military training.

So, in essence the movie doesn't hold water if you realize that the movie is advocating the least Democratic and the most military state as the model and a victor in the movie.

In antiquity Sparta was a Dorian Greek military state, originally centered in Laconia. As a city-state devoted to military training, Sparta possessed the most formidable army in the Greek world, and after achieving notable victories over the Athenian and Persian Empires, regarded itself as the natural protector of Greece.[1] Laconia or Lacedaemon (??????????) was the name of the wider city-state centered at the city of Sparta, though the name "Sparta" is now used for both. The Kings of Sparta were believed to be the direct descendants of Heracles.[2] Adolf Hitler, considered Sparta to be the first National Socialist state, and praised its early eugenics treatment of deformed children.[3]

I saw it twice at the theater.

    Second time was in IMAX.

Not only a cool movie, but also very "artfully".

I saw it on IMAX, possibly the best experience of the year. I initially thought the movie would not be that good, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm half afraid to buy it on DVD because my TV will never live up to the IMAX experience.
You do the math..... I'll do the alfredo!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

It was as good as I remember, man I love that movie. My wife would have been impressed by the sculpted bodies of the actors, if she didnt see that at home everyday
