The Hofstra President, citing they weren't "getting the return on the investment", has announced they are dropping the football program. The announcement follows a similar one from Northeastern two weeks ago. Both are Colonial Athletic Association schools.
Underlying the decision were initiatives at James Madison and William & Mary, co-members of the CAA, to build new stadiums valued in excess of $60,000,000. Hofstra didn't feel they could be competitive. The entire $4.5 million football budget at Hofstra will be redirected to academic programs.
Old Dominion will join the CAA in 2011 and Georgia State joins in 2012.
