Braylon Edwards is gone from Cleveland. A disappointing end to a stay that began with such promise. First we saw a display of pro bowl skills, in season, and the magnificent charitable awarding of 100 scholarships to inner-city youth (his own expense) in the off-season. Last season saw a display of performance problems and attitude problems. This season has seen a continuation of drops at his receiver position and inappropriate behavior showed both off the field and on the field (including in the huddle). Finally Sunday saw his catch streak stopped at 62 games with no catches in almost 75 full minutes of football against the Cincinnati Bengals. The topper came later the same day, as Edwards saw fit to enjoy a late night on the town following the loss. Somewhere around 2:30 in the morning outside a downtown nightclub Edwards had some words with a gentleman and ended up punching him in the face. Turns out the man, Edward Givens, is a close friend of Lebron James, who Edwards was apparently verbally trashing before throwing a punch. James' views of the incident were published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer newpaper Monday morning. He decried Edwards for being jealous of him and his friends and considered his assault on a smaller (140lb) man childish. This morning the NFL said they were investigating. By the afternoon Edwards was no longer a Cleveland Brown. Edwards is now a Jet, but may face some suspension time. The NFL only gives so many strikes. Edwards was recently cited for doing 120mph on I90 in a western suburb. Edwards was also known to have been drinking with Dante Stallworth, prior to the fatal accident that caused Stallworth to be suspended from the NFL for this entire season. Mr. Edwards has great potential and must grow up.

The kid had huge promise while at Michigan, but was often infected with the dropsies. Sounds like the he's been reinfected. Sure would be nice if new surroundings cures the disease.

He has bad hands, but is capable of making all-star plays. I think his problems in Cleveland stemmed from being with the Browns. Put him with a franchise (like the Jets) that knows how to do business and I think he will flourish. Hopefully, the off-field stupidity will disappear with the on-field success. Anybody remember Randy Moss?

Braylon can be spectacular, in between drops. On a good team that doesn't absolutely REQUIRE him to do more than he is capable of (Browns went some ungodly amount of games without scoring an offensive TD), he becomes a useful piece of the puzzle. M Richardson, you bring up a good point. The culture of a team begins at the top. When Al Lerner passed away his son took over the team. In my opinion he is a bad owner, though he did garner great headlines by offering over 100 million dollars for a pro soccer team this past summer. The team had problems with Kellen Winslow and is being sued by Joe Jurevicius over a staph infection (which had also felled Winslow for a while). The drafts have been a total mess. The Browns are not a coaching problem they are a management problem.
