While people across Utah are worrying about how to conserve water during the dry, hot summer, a 70-year-old Orem woman found herself bruised and jailed after a police officer tried to ticket her for not watering her lawn.

Wonder what information is missing though. What kind of neighborhood does she live in, b/c some neighborhoods have rules about how your lawn is.

Don't you think they would have asked to have the lawn mowed before issuing a ticket? She asked to call her son, turned and the cop arrested her from behind.

Many cops are scum. Their heroism appears where it is usually needed least.

Most people become cops because they have anger management problems and can't deal with people in a civil manner.

I don't think you can say most people in any profession do it for anything other than good reasons. This cop is a jackass, but it shouldn't detract from all the others who put their life on the line every day.

Usually police officers, deputies, highway patrol officers, and so forth, are a reflection of their leadership and the mentality of the department they serve under. The law enforcement where I live is terrific. But I lived in San Diego County in the early 80's and they were so bad pretty much the entire leadership, and much of the force was eventually terminated. This after HUGE lawsuit losses that hurt the county badly. Killing an innocent man, and then trying to cover it up, was the straw that ended it.

Most of law enforcement are terrific people doing a terribly difficult job. But I have found - when I read stories like this - that the problem is department wide. The good departments tend to get rid of cops like this, if they even hire them in the first place. .

I agree completely that this cop was in the wrong. But I doubt he was just driving by the house and decided the lawn needed to be fixed. His approach to the situation was completely uncalled for though.
