Thread: Eddie Alvarez

    Default Eddie Alvarez

Its obviously a given that he's been the breakout star thus far in 2008. With his performances through out the course of the Grand Prix with his wins over Hellboy and (Edit) Kawajiri, how high does this put him in the rankings?

Dude has definitely made me a fan.

I think he has moved his way into the top five.

I think he is pretty impressive and has some good wins, but Top 5 in which weight class? Did he fight the grand prix at 160? He usually fights at 170 and he had not had that many great wins at that weight class. If he is at light weight, i would probably put him down in the Top 5, but at welter weight-only Top 10 until at least 1 more big fight. Welter weight is pretty stacked with talent and although he is talented, I would like to see consistency for someone to be Top 5. IMO

I'd put him at #3 and I think he matches up well with Gomi.

Zag - he has only lost once and he has only won 2x by decision (once again Hansen). He was the Bodog champ and his best win before Dream was probably against Aaron Riley, where he broke his jaw (if I remember it correctly)

Sucks also for Alvarez that he made the finals but just got a bonus for being in the final 4. Difference of $20g for making it or $90g for winning.

It was the lw gp at 160lbs which Alvarez has now made the switch too. He didn't face many name fighters at ww but he did beat some tough guys in Derek Noble and Aaron Riley and as CL said he has finished almost every opponent.

Alvarez has very fast powerful hands, his wrestling and athletic ability allow him to keep the fight standing and he also has proven to have good submission defense.

He has now has two impressive wins over top ten light weights in Hansen and Kawajiri and another tko victory over a solid fighter in Amade.

DREAM's Lightweight division is actually 154, not 160.

I'm guessing you definitely have BJ and Gomi above him, and then two out of the crew of Sherk, JZ, and Thomson above him then?
