Star Anderson Silva-Forrest Griffin Set for August

"I honestly think Anderson Silva needs to challenge himself a little more."

Dana White's reaction at the UFC 97 post-fight press conference was less than congratulatory after a main event that drew the ire of many at home and left hundreds in attendance filing for the exits.

"Maybe we go to 205 and do a fight with somebody who poses a serious threat to him."

Many agreed. Anderson Silva was bored; he was rapidly growing tired of his shrinking competition. In his last two outings, he simply toyed with opponents who didn't really have any business inside that cage with him.

After leaving the cage with a unanimous five round decision victory without a scratch on him and setting a new UFC record for most consecutive victories at nine, Anderson Silva made it very clear that he is above and beyond any opponent the UFC has to offer at middleweight.

No one wants to sit through another five round circus act like the one we saw at UFC 97 in Montreal, Dana White especially.

Dana White is a man of his word. He was embarrassed by Silva's performance at UFC 97, so now it's Superfight time!

Anderson Silva is being sent to the land of light heavyweights for a second time. This time he won't be fighting a journeyman like he did against James Irvin. He'll fight former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.

The two will meet August 8 in Philadelphia as the co-main event of UFC 101.

Forrest Griffin isn't a fighter who is going to lay down for Anderson Silva. We all know what kind of a fighter Forrest Griffin is, and when he fights you know you will be watching a war.

He has a lot of heart and skill, and is one of the most popular fighters in MMA.

He is just the type of fighter Anderson Silva wants—and needs.

Aside from UFC 100, UFC 101 is shaping up to be the best card of the year with the lightweight title fight between B.J. Penn and Kenny Florian as the main event.

Both men seem to be excited for this fight and that makes me, as a fan, excited for this fight.

Kevin Iole from Yahoo! Sports has more details in his article, which you can read here.

Finally, a challenge for Silva. He defintely needs to move up to light heavyweight. There is no one else left in middleweight for him to fight anyways. Also, if Silva refuses to fight in light heavyweight everybodys gonna be calling him a wussy and they are going to bash and criticize him.

I hate to see him move up before he gets cornered into a fight with GSP. People seem to want that fight and it would be interesting. I think that he will be too technical, fast, and smart for Forrest. Even if he choses to fight like he did in his last one, he should win. Forrest has been a warrior but has been dropped several times and that puts his chin in question-something you don't want when fighting Anderson???

Pound for pound, GSP is a superior fighter then Forrest Griffin, but I know which one I'd pick to fight if absolutely forced to pick one, and it isn't the bigger one.

This one won't be boring.. Griffin is taylor made for Silva. A come straight at you guy who swings for the fences. Silva better be in shape.

But isn't that the wrong way to fight him? I'm sure Dana's made it clear to everyone involved that the UFC isn't interested in boring 5 rounders (although this one would only be a boring 3 rounder).

I'd rather see him fight GSP, but this is him going up a weight against the former champ, so a good matchup

I really want to see Silva fight GSP. That would be a great match. I don't see why GSP wouldn't win. Those would be some powerful kicks Siva would take from Pierre.

Who cares what Dana says, they will not deny Anderson anything until he faces a loss. He can be the most boring fighter, but nobody has found a way to win against him. He has had one boring fight, which was the way to win against Leites and he is now getting critized for it. I think he will continue to win and Forrest win not know what to do in the clinch when Silvas knees are breaking his ribs and cracking his head. I like Forrest and enjoy watching his fights, but Anderson does not look any different at 205 than he does at 185, so I doubt he will be out of shape. He loves to fight and train and will want to continue to win and represent what he has established.
